Closing the 2025 Season and Opening a New Chapter

With deep gratitude, I have concluded an exceptional 2025 fly‑fishing season. This year was especially meaningful, as I celebrated the 10th anniversary of Flyfishingodec Slovenia — a decade of dedicated work, trophy catches, honest conversations by the river, and friendships born from a shared passion for fly fishing.

Today, Flyfishingodec Slovenia is much more than a fly‑fishing school. It has grown into a boutique fly‑fishing agency, connecting anglers from all over the world and creating premium experiences on Slovenia’s finest waters and exclusive international destinations.

Everything I do is rooted in a sustainable approach and the Catch and Release philosophy. I believe responsible fly fishing is the only way to preserve healthy fish populations and maintain natural balance — for us and for future generations.

Winter 2025/2026 – The Season of the Huchen

Although the trout season has come to an end, winter brings a new chapter. Until 14 February 2026, the season for Huchen (Hucho hucho) — the king of our rivers — remains open. It is the perfect time for anglers seeking a unique and adventurous winter fly‑fishing experience.

My partner and I (from Australia!) were lucky enough to spend a glorious day fishing in the Soca Valley with Matej in July 2023. Matej has the best knowledge of the area and was able to find spots for us to fish after days of heavy rainfall and high water levels! Neither of us had ever tried fly fishing before but learnt quickly thanks to Matej’s guidance, we caught some trout and spent a memorable day out in the most gorgeous scenery! He also packed us some local food to have for lunch which was unexpected and so appreciated. We loved the experience and it was the highlight of our 6 week trip to Europe, we will definitely be back and couldn’t recommend Matej highly enough. 😊😊

Had a fabulous day fishing the upper Soca and tributary with Matej in mid-September. What a great person and guide! Attentive but not pushy, good humored & interesting to talk to - like being out with friend. If u don’t get some of his uncle’s salami or Matej’s homemade plum & apricot jam for lunch then demand a refund😂. Caught several nice fish but none better than a big beautiful Marble at the end of the day. Highly recommend!
