I spent the beginning of September with Claudio, my regular guest, as we headed to the upper Soča River near Bovec and Lepena. The first day was sunny and promising—Claudio caught a beautiful marble trout early on, measuring around 50 cm. The fishing continued with several rainbow trout strikes, making the day even more exciting.
The second day brought weather uncertainty. Atmospheric pressure was troubling, and the fish weren’t cooperating. But nature is unpredictable—by midday, the skies cleared, the sun broke through, and the fishing came back to life. Claudio nearly landed another marble trout, but it slipped off the hook after a fierce fight. We ended the day with two impressive rainbow trout (60–70 cm) and a promise to meet again next year. Two days full of challenges, beauty, and friendship.
